Virtual Reality Exposes Clandestine Torture Centers in Caracas

In a chilling revelation, a virtual reality initiative named «Realidad Helicoide,» launched by the association Voces de la Memoria, has exposed the existence of at least 17 clandestine torture centers in Caracas. The initiative, which uses virtual reality to convey the horrors of torture, was presented to Spanish media by Víctor Navarro, the founder of the association and a victim of torture at the Venezuelan penitentiary Helicoide.

The Horrors of Helicoide

The virtual reality experience allows users to traverse a barrack of the Helicoide detention and torture center in Venezuela, listen to testimonies, and witness the inhumane conditions in which prisoners live. The initiative aims to denounce the ongoing torture of around 300 political prisoners in Venezuela.

The Power of Testimonies

The project is based on the testimonies of 30 people who have experienced the horrors of the Helicoide prison. The virtual reality experience includes the physical torture methods used in the facility and the desperate screams of victims undergoing electric shocks.

The Fight Against Silence

Despite the pain and anxiety that recalling such memories can cause, Navarro believes it is necessary to denounce what is happening in Venezuela today. He emphasizes that democratic governments must condemn torture and that human rights cannot be trivialized or exchanged for resources.

Conclusion

The «Realidad Helicoide» initiative uses virtual reality to expose the grim reality of clandestine torture centers in Caracas. The project, based on the testimonies of torture victims, aims to raise awareness and prompt action against these human rights abuses.
